Organization History
During the National Conference on Telemedicine held in Lucknow in April 2001, the participants resolved to form a scientific society dedicated to telemedicine awareness at the national level and held an annual scientific pending formal registration, thus the Telemedicine Society of India was born and All participants signed a resolution to this effect and were made founding members. The first annual conference of the society was held in Lucknow in the latter year and all the participants were included in the founding member group. There was no scientific activity in the subsequent two years until March 2005 when an International Conference on Telemedicine (INTELMED 2005) was organized by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in Bangalore. During this event a general body meeting was held among the members present for the formation of an interim executive body, to decide the responsibility of the operation of the executive and subsequent election till the formal registration of the society. The following interim group of executive was formed by consensus; Dr. S. S. Badrinath, Chairman, Sankar Netralaya (Founder Chairman), ISRO's Mr. Bhaskaranarayana (Vice President), Prof. Saroj Mishra (Secretary) and Prof. K. Ganapathi (Joint Secretary-cum-Treasurer). Representatives of various ministries of government (Information Technology and Indian Space Research Organization), defense services, telemedicine (AIIMS, New Delhi and academic organizations playing an active role in SGPGI, Lucknow) to members of the executive body supporting telemedicine activities. was chosen.
